About mysteries and Puck's pandemonium

Place: D’s rooftop restaurant
Time: 6:30 PM
Play1: Mysteries
Play 2: Puck’s Pandemonium

My brother often wondered how I got good marks in my exams. He was sure that somehow I get the important questions or I managed to copy in exams. This was because of my lazy nature. I was never found studying or reading the course materials. And that’s why, despite my liking towards writing, I am nothing more that a code-writer : ). I am continuing the same with the post about my play, which I was planning to, write for last 10 days, but completed the first part today. This post contains a brief description of two plays and my role, the second one my experiences.

“Mysteries” was a sketch on the idiosyncrasies of women – as our director puts it. I feel every human being is mysterious in some way. I played a husband who, after 5 years of marriage, is not aware what her wife likes. Now playing a husband in a play was so difficult that I wondered would I ever be able to be a real-life husband. The story is about two couples, one married for last 20 years and other for (only) 5 years. And the couple married for 20 years is older than the couple married for 5 years. I am writing so, because this may not be obvious :). Now, the younger couple is much more dedicated to each other, take care of each other etc., and for older ones it’s like a routine. They are just carrying on with their marriage.

The play is set in a restaurant, where the couples meet. Then the wives go to the powder-room and discuss the younger couple’s fifth marriage anniversary coming up soon. The younger couple is going to watch a truck rally, because the husband thinks, his wife like it. But that was a misunderstanding and they are not able to communicate this to each other. Both the husband and wife are advised to communicate with each other (by the older couple).

And the play ends when the younger woman takes up a rolled up newspaper, while her hubby talks about their 5th anniversary. The ending comes from the famous English saying, I vaguely remember “take newspaper to a dog” or something like that. This was a comedy play, so there were many dialogues and situations which made people laugh.

The second play was “Puck’s pandemonium”, set on the backdrop of tech-rehearsal in a school. The director is trying hard to get people act and make the play a successful one. But, the actors run away, forget their dialogues and do everything which they are not supposed to. And, contributing to the chaos was the principal, who is extremely excited at the thought of doing a musical –totally clueless on the true nature of the play. I was acting as backstage crew, who are supposed to take care of all the props (properties) in the play. I was supposed to do group song, echo the voices with other actors and do similar stuff. Not a lead role I would say, as it was in the previous one. The tech- rehearsal goes on and not a single scene could be rehearsed. The play ends when the director and the whole group decide to start the whole thing with a rejuvenated spirit.

Hope I would be able to complete my second post in less time :).

Where are you?

This is an interesting incident about how much we are used to mobiles.
One of my room mates called a friend of ours and asked – “Where are you?” hearing this, all of us started laughing. He realized his mistake then, he dialed the land line no of our friend (just before the call he asked the same from another roommate). Comments-[ comment(s)]

Working on weekend :(

I hate coming to office on weekends. I can keep on cribbing infinite times; still I am in office right now,I am working on weekend. All my plans for this weekend are shelved :(.This was supposed to be a long weekend, and I was happy that I would be watching India-Zimbabwe ODI, sipping coffee. I am still watching it, but only on net. I thought I would watch some excellent movies like Munnabhai MBBS, Khaki, ek hasina thi etc, but seems I will be spending all these days in office. Feeling jealous of all those, who are not attending office this weekend… Comments-[ comment(s)]

Aaj mere yaar ki shadi hai

Another good friend of mine is getting married today. I wish I could attend his marriage, but I am here in Banaglore (sob sob) and his marriage is taking place in north. I need at least two days absence from office on weekdays to attend the wedding and come back. I phoned him some days back and informed that I would not be coming. He being a jolly fellow told me- “achha hai 1 aadmi ka khana bachega”. But, I am missing the sheer joy and happiness of attending his marriage.
Wishing him all the best!

The countdown begins...

Sunday, I will be going for my first stage appearance in a play. I have participated in debates and GDs in my college days, but not in a play. And in my last company, I was a part of theatre hobby group. We staged two plays there, which met huge success. The audience was my company colleagues, and though my last company had a decent strength (about 1200) I was very comfortable, because of the familiar environment. Also, there I need not “act” as I could get away with plain dialogue delivery, some ‘sher-o-shayri’ and similar stuff.
So, this one is going to be the real stage performance. We are practicing for this from last 2 months and from yesterday we started practicing on stage so that we can get a feel of the show. I am hoping will be able to perform good :). Comments-[ comment(s)]

To the techie world!

These days I am getting mails from people whom I hardly know. These are the folks who will be passing out this year and as part of their curriculum, they should undergo 6 moths’ (or less) Industrial Training. If they perform well, they can get a job in the same organization. Now it’s the responsibility of respective colleges to arrange for the same, but given the pathetic condition of our education institutions, it’s no surprise that they don’t. Only few big names are able to arrange for the same or few lucky people can get the training on their own. Rest all; keep on sending mails to everybody who is in IT industry, doesn’t matter they know him/her or not. Now, I am getting mails from such people who are my brother’s friend’s brother’s friend. I don’t know how to reply? I can understand their position and telling a straightforward “no” doesn’t make me feel good. It’s better to forward these mails to all the IT people I know, perhaps, one of them can get the job done :). Fortunately IT is one field which is still offering a lot of jobs, so when they pass out they will surely get a job, definitely not without a struggle. Comments-[ comment(s)]

Wanna be journalist

I joined a correspondance course in journalism and mass communication recently. Many of my friends wondered, why am I doing a course which is not at all related to my profession. My answer is that I always wanted to get into media.Until I got into software I wanted to be with some newspaper or TV house. But, then the charm of software took me into it.When I was a student I always thought that there will be lot many creative challenges in software, but the real world is different. After spending some 4 years in this world that dream is over. Now I have started thinking practically about my job.So I decided that I should give a try to my old dream and opted for this course. Now I feel more like conducting talk shows, interviewing celebs esp. politicians and visit places, don't know if I would ever switch to media or not.
